Love Mattress

Love Mattress

Brodie Bruce: You know how when someone lays with their back to you and you lay behind them really close and you throw one arm over them?

T.S. Quint: It’s called spooning.

Brodie Bruce: But you gotta put the other arm somewhere. You can either lay on it or just shove it in between your bodies. The only other option is to stretch it above your head. But sometimes my arm pops out of the socket when I’m sleeping like that. So, I was constantly searching for someplace to keep my arm while still laying close to her.

If only Brodie Bruce (of Mallrats) had discovered the Love Mattress. Made up of individual foam strips you’ll never be searching for a place to put your other arm! (Above quote is an excerpt from the movie Mallrats by Kevin Smith)

Flickr: CD Cover Meme

Flickr: CD Cover Meme

I came across this interesting project the other day and just had to share it. The basic premise is to take three random things, two text snippets and one image and create a fake CD cover. It’s a great exercise in creative typography and there are some examples that wouldn’t look out of place in your local record store. You can check out the Flickr group here. And here’s a basic run down of the rules:

1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first article title on the page is the name of your band.
2. www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.
3. www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.
4. ???
5. Profit

Be careful though, it’s pretty addictive and once you start it’s difficult to stop.  Also if you wish please leave a link to your work in the comments of this post.

Little People

Little People

Little People is an art project of miniature proportions. As the name suggests, little people are left in different spots around London to fend for themselves! The photos are great and if you want you can buy a print from the website.

For all you geeks, hackers, engineers or just general gadget lovers out there, Bug Labs have created (more like assembled the parts of) what could be the ultimate gadget. Featuring a series of connectable ‘electronic modules’ and a programmable Linux core, you can build whatever type of gadget you want. According to their website, digital cameras, telephones and gps systems are well within the capabilities of their devices and with motion sensors and touch screens available who knows what’s possible.

Giant Flip Clock

Giant Flip Clock

This Giant Flip Clock from Little Clock Shop would look great on my desk. Apparently it’s wall mountable as well.

Yvonne Lee Schultz

Yvonne Lee Schultz

Yvonne Lee Schultz has some great art works on display on her website. The main themes seem to be either the effects of war and destruction or, in complete contrast, the beauty of this planet (I couldn’t find an artists statement on the site). Either way my favourite  is this porcelain handgun, which I guess symbolises the fragility of human life.

Dan Tobin Smith

Dan Tobin Smith

Dan Tobin Smith’s photographic works are the opitomy of organised chaos. The set designs look like they have been hit by an explosion, but upon more careful observation you can see that everything has been set in place down to the most minute detail. He also has some wonderful experimentations with colour as seen above in a work from the ‘Paper’ series.

ooo000ooo

ooo000ooo

ooo000ooo is Brian Morris’ online playground and there’s plenty of great stuff to check out. Everything has a distinctly macabre feel to it (perhaps it’s the skulls!) but there’s some truly inspirational work scattered around especially the vinyl toy art in the whatnots section.

Finding Cheska

Finding Cheska

Finding Cheska take small things in our life and re-examine them thru the eyes of a little child (according to their website). And it certainly shows! All the Finding Cheska designs have a brilliant child-like quality to them whilst retaining their functionality.
